What is the Weekly Net? The LAUSD ARA holds a radio net each week on Thursday night at 7:30 PM local time. The primary purpose of the net is to allow Association Members to test and evaluate their communications capability. On a scheduled basis, the nets provide a weekly opportunity for Members to "Check In" with a Net Control Station. By making two-way contacts in a controlled and directed manner, communications similar to those that take place during a real emergency are simulated and practiced. Other purposes of the net are to pass along news and information of interest to the Members and others listening, to provide a sense of camaraderie, and to have fun while doing it all! Recently, we have combined the LAUSD ARA Net with the Westside Amateur Radio Club Net. Members from both organizations are encouraged to check in. What Happens During the Net? Net Control begins the net by making announcements of news or upcoming events of interest to everyone. A roll call of Member and Visitor stations is conducted to test two-way communications capability. Stations are asked to report their Name, Location, and Radio Capabilities. Net Control typically has a Trivia or Survey Question that is asked of all stations checking in to simulate "passing traffic" between stations. If you'd like to submit a question or have Net Control make an announcement, please send an email by clicking HERE. A recording of "The Amateur Radio Newsline Report" is also played to relay the latest Amateur Radio news to those listening. How Do I Check In? All licensed Amateur Radio Operators are encouraged to check in and support the net each Thursday night at 7:30 PM. Frequencies used are:
These repeaters are typically linked together during the net so that what is heard on one is also heard on the other. Amateur Operators may use either repeater to check in during the net. (Note: Other repeaters and frequencies may be linked in or used during the net. Net Control will announce these when they occur).
